About the applet

Li Bo's text inspector started life as my final year project at the University of Kent at Canterbury.

It's had a few revisions since then, and still gets the occasional update.

Getting the applet to work

If the applet doesn't load in straight away, there are a couple of things you can do to get it to work. There are two basic things to check first:
  1. Your browser is allowing Java to run.
    • In internet explorer, goto tools-->internet options then click the advanced tab. Scroll down till you see a Java section and make sure it is checked.

    • In FireFox, goto to tools-->options, select the content tab and make sure Enable Java is ticked.

    • Any other browser will have something similar to these two.

  2. You have a fairly recent version of Java installed.

The applet should run on v1.4. If you don't know what you've got and don't know how to find out, don't worry. Just head over to the download section on the Java.com site and you can download the latest version from there.

Bugs

You may find the odd bug in the program. Yes, even in one as carefully crafted as this one :P
If you do, just drop me an email with the details and I'll have a look at it - bear in mind with syllable numbers in a word that there may well be differences of opinion!

When checking the number of syllables in a word, I use the Merriam-Webster Online dictionary.

Basically, I'll go with that.
